BCI’s residential construction sector snapshot report in Asia captures the total number and value of active projects across the region, as of June 2024.  

As reported by BCI, the number of design application approvals in the residential sector has been steadily on the rise since 2023 across seven key Asian markets: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Analysing data over the last five years shows us that there is an average of almost nine months between design approval and contracts being awarded on residential buildings. From here, it takes an average of just one and a half months for the project to then commence construction.  

PROJECTS IN THE RESIDENTIAL SECTOR 

Across BCI’s project coverage in Asia, there are currently over 26,800 active projects in the residential sector. A breakdown by country shows Hong Kong has the most active residential projects (5,577), while the next highest number can be found in Indonesia at just over 5,000 projects.
